The Challenge
AUSTRAC’s updated AML/CTF framework applies a $5,000 threshold to gaming payouts. More payouts now require full identification, screening and record-keeping than before. But the harder part of the change wasn’t volume. It was consistency. A venue now needs its process to produce the same outcome every time, whoever is on shift, however long it’s been since they last did one.
The Solution
Checkd replaced the paper trail with a single digital record that every duty manager uses consistently, regardless of who’s on shift. Every payout is logged, timestamped, and tied to the manager who processed it — turning a process that depended on individual habits into one the venue can consistently point to.
A few weeks ago, one of the club’s managers demonstrated Checkd to other clubs at a club managers’meeting. Nobody asked him to; he just wanted to show other clubs how the system has helped them
“I showed it to them because it has genuinely made the payout process easier for us. It takes away the manual paperwork, keeps everything in one digital workflow, and gives staff confidence that the AML requirements are being completed correctly. It’s the kind of system other clubs can benefit from, especially if they’re still relying on paper-based processes.”
Tim Palmer — General Manager, Inverell RSM Club
The Outcome
Inverell RSM Club now has a complete, auditable digital record across every duty manager and every shift — including the overnight payouts that previously carried the most reconciliation work. The venue can answer a question about any payout in minutes, not days.
“I’d say it’s worth making the switch. If you’re still using paper or manual digital entries, you’re relying on staff to remember the process, complete every step correctly, and file everything properly. Checkd makes it much easier by guiding staff through the payout, capturing the information digitally, and giving management visibility when payouts are completed or when something needs attention. For a similar-sized venue, it takes a lot of pressure off the team and gives you a more consistent process.”
