Gaming Payout Compliance Software
Built for Australian Pubs and Clubs
AUSTRAC’s updated AML/CTF rules are in effect. The standard has shifted from having a compliance program to proving it works, on every payout over the threshold. For gaming venues across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory, this means the payout process needs to change, not just to manage the increased volume of large payouts, but to meet the new compliance requirements that now apply each time one is processed.
Checkd is the digital payout workflow that helps your venue consistently meet AUSTRAC’s updated AML/CTF obligations, keeping your team compliant and speeding up what can otherwise be a lengthy payout process.
Talk to Us About CheckdWhy Most Gaming Venues Are Still at Risk of Compliance Breaches at the Point of Payout
The payout process at most pubs and clubs looks something like this: patron wins, staff grab a paper form, write down some details, photocopy an ID, maybe do a quick Google search of the patron’s name to check for PEP or sanctions flags, then file it all in a folder. Someone eventually reviews it. Sometimes.
Under AUSTRAC’s updated framework, what you’re producing at the payout is now scrutinised for consistency and completeness, not just existence. A folder of paper forms doesn’t cut it anymore for a number of reasons: the legibility of handwritten records is now scrutinised, ID documents can no longer be physically stored or photocopied under the updated privacy requirements, and a paper trail with missing fields and no audit trail isn’t evidence of an effective compliance program. It’s evidence of a gap.
The real challenge isn’t that your team doesn’t care; it’s that manual processes make it really hard to be consistent. Different staff members handle payouts differently. Steps get missed when it’s busy. Records go missing. And there’s no paper process in the world that can tell you in real time whether the person standing at your counter is a Politically Exposed Person or on a sanctions list.
That’s what Checkd was built to fix: closing the gaps in the payout process to minimise the AML risks that come with relying on paper and manual steps.
Checkd: A Digital Payout Platform Built for the Gaming Floor
Checkd is purpose-built for hospitality venues that operate electronic gaming machines (EGMs) and need to meet their AML/CTF obligations under AUSTRAC without turning every large payout into a lengthy exercise.
It’s not a generic compliance platform. It’s not another document management tool. It’s a digital app that guides your floor staff through every payout from start to finish, and gives your managers the oversight they need to approve, monitor, record and report on every transaction with confidence.
How a Checkd Payout Works
1. Patron presents a winning payout to staff
Staff open the Checkd app on their venue iPad.
2. ID is scanned
Using OCR technology, the patron’s identity document, physical or digital, is scanned, and all details are automatically extracted, requiring no manual data entry. The scanned information is displayed clearly for a quick visual confirmation.
3. Payout proof is captured
Staff photograph or capture the payout ticket details and confirm the payout amount directly in the app.
4. Identity verification runs
Checkd verifies the identity document in real time, checking its authenticity against government records. If it passes, the process continues. If additional documentation is needed to reach 100 points for identity verification, the app prompts staff to collect it via a checklist that outlines points for each identity document, eliminating guesswork.
5. Payment details are captured
Staff record how the payout is distributed—cash, EFT, or a combination — and confirm the patron’s payment details. This step also ensures the payout breakdown complies with your venue’s cash floor limits.
6. Patron & gaming attendant sign off
The patron and the gaming attendant sign off on the payout to confirm all entered details are correct and push the payout through to a manager for approval.
7. Manager review
The payout is escalated to a manager, who reviews the full record — including KYC results, PEP and sanctions screening outcomes, adverse media checks, and the patron’s previous payout history. The system provides a recommended risk rating. From this information, the manager assigns the final risk rating, adds their notes, and approves or declines the payout.
8. Payout approved, finance is notified
Checkd automatically alerts your accounts or finance team to complete the payment.
A seamless, systematic payout process is complete
Every step is timestamped. Every record is stored digitally. Every payout produces the same structured output, regardless of which staff member handled it.
Built for Australian Pubs, Clubs & Licensed Venues with Gaming Machines
For Gaming Managers and Floor Staff
The app is simple enough for any staff member to follow; no compliance training is required to use it correctly. Checkd guides the process from start to finish, so your team can focus on the patron experience rather than trying to remember every required step in a manual, paper-based payout process.
For Compliance Managers
Every payout creates a structured, searchable digital record, fully timestamped at every step. KYC results, PEP and adverse media screening outcomes, staff sign-offs, and manager approvals are all captured and stored. If AUSTRAC comes knocking, you’re not scrambling through folders; you’re pulling a report. Checkd also makes it straightforward to produce large payout reports for internal review, whether that’s a monthly high-value transaction summary for management or the supporting documentation needed to report a suspicious matter and lodge an SMR.
For Venue Owners and Group Operators
Checkd runs on a monthly subscription model that scales with the number of EGMs at your venue. No high upfront costs. No hidden gotcha fees. Checkd is a platform that grows with your operation.
Checkd is priced on a tiered subscription model, designed to be accessible for venues of any size, whether you’re running a small number of machines or a large gaming floor. There are no high upfront costs and no surprise fees as your operation grows. Unlike per-machine pricing models that increase with every EGM you add, Checkd’s tiered approach means you’re not penalised for scale. It’s a platform built to support any venue, from a single-site pub to a multi-venue group.

Why Payout-Specific Compliance Software Matters
Checkd sets itself apart from the competition as it was built specifically around the gaming payout transaction — the moment of greatest compliance exposure for most venues. It doesn’t try to be everything. It focuses on making one of the most critical processes that puts your licence at risk into one that your team can execute consistently, every time.
A few things that set Checkd apart:
- End-to-end payout workflow. From the first ID scan to the final finance notification — every step is in one place.
- Real-time identity verification. OCR-powered physical ID capture as well as digital IDs, both verified live against government identity databases — so staff aren’t manually checking anything.
- PEP, sanctions and adverse media screening are built in. Every patron who meets the payout threshold is automatically screened as part of the workflow. It’s not an extra step. It’s just how Checkd works.
- Manager oversight and risk rating. Managers review full KYC results, adverse media checks and patron history before making the call to approve or decline, and record their reasoning.
- Instant finance notification. No phone calls, no sticky notes. When a payout is approved, your accounts team is notified.
- Join the IDU family of 500+ venues. IDU has been trusted by venues across Australia for years to handle real-world compliance challenges. Checkd is the next step in that commitment to the hospitality industry. If you’re already using IDU’s ID scanning technology, you already know how we build products that work on the floor, not just on paper.
Common Questions About Gaming Payout Compliance Software
Do I actually need compliance software, or is a paper process acceptable?
A paper-based process can technically satisfy AUSTRAC’s documentation requirements, but it struggles to satisfy the consistency requirement. AUSTRAC’s 2026 framework is explicit that your controls should produce the same outcome every time, regardless of which staff member is involved. Paper records are also now scrutinised for legibility — handwritten forms with unclear entries, missing fields, or inconsistent formatting won’t hold up under review. Manual processes make it very difficult to meet that standard reliably. Digital workflows are designed to enforce consistency by definition.
What’s the difference between Checkd and a general AML compliance platform?
Most AML compliance platforms are built around documentation — risk assessments, incident registers, and policy management. Checkd is built around execution. Like general platforms, it stores and records your compliance activity, but where Checkd differs is its focus on helping your staff run the process on the gaming floor — in real time, for every payout that meets the required threshold.
Does Checkd replace our AML/CTF program?
No. AUSTRAC requires every gaming venue to have an AML/CTF program, which must be written and maintained separately. What Checkd does is give your team a structured, consistent way to execute the program’s requirements at the payout counter. Think of it as the operational layer that sits on top of your compliance documentation.
How does Checkd handle payouts that require more than standard identification?
If the identity document a patron presents doesn’t immediately pass verification, the Checkd workflow prompts staff to collect additional documentation until the 100-point identification requirement is met. The app guides staff through the next steps rather than leaving them to figure it out.
Is Checkd suitable for venues with a small number of EGMs?
Yes. Checkd is priced on a tiered model designed to suit venues of all sizes, so smaller venues aren’t paying a premium they don’t need. AUSTRAC’s obligations aren’t limited to large gaming floors — compliance requirements apply to any venue operating over 16 EGMs, regardless of scale. Checkd’s pricing is structured to reflect that, so you’re not paying more simply because your machine count grows.
